POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
After Root Canal Therapy / Retreatment
You should contact your restorative dentist's office to have the tooth restored within 3-4 weeks following completion of your endodontic therapy to prevent loss of the temporary filling and possible re-contamination of the root canals. Please avoid chewing on the affected side until your restorative dentist has placed a protective restoration on the treated tooth.
Your tooth may be tender after treatment and will become progressively more comfortable within a few days. Any post-operative tenderness is best alleviated by taking 400-800mg of ibuprofen (Advil) every 6 hours for the next 2-3 days (not to exceed 3200mg/day).
If you are unable to take ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, or aspirin, you may take 1000mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) every 4-6 hours (not to exceed 4000mg/day).
Please remember that the consumption of alcohol is not recommended while taking these medications.
Should you continue to experience post-operative discomfort that is not alleviated by the above medications, or should you develop swelling in the affected area, please contact our office.
